As you saw from this post, I recently cut my hair short and also brightened my locks with some color. Maintaining highlights can be an expensive ‘hobby’ (touch-ups recommended around every 3 months), so I was on the lookout for high quality color-safe shampoos and conditioners. My hair salon recommended Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger shampoo. I’ve only used it once or twice now and so far, so good. This moisturizing shampoo is great for color-treated hair (doesn’t tangle hair) and the smell is heavenly. A little goes a long way — use a few pea-sized amounts and add water to lather into your hair. After showering, I use a leave-in conditioner to lock in moisture and my hair is good to go for a couple of days.
I like switching shampoos every few days so that my fine hair does not get used to one shampoo/conditioner. I did some research and bought the Nexxus Color Assure set from Target. The verdict? Love! Good lather and very moisturizing. I also follow-up with the Color Assure leave-in conditioner spray.
There you have it…two hair care products currently in rotation. Let me know in the comments below if you have any good color-safe hair products that you recommend!

From my previous posts, you’ll see I’ve had long hair for the last 6 months. Knowing that I would be dealing with a newborn and have zero time to style my hair each day (so true), I grew my hair long so that I could easily pull it up into a ponytail. It was a good idea for a while. I soon discovered it took extra time to wash and dry my hair (for those days that I did wash it). Also, once the baby became aware of his hands and fingers, he started to grab and tug at my long strands. Since summer is upon us, I decided it was time for a hair cut and style change.
et voila, we have the long the bob! It’s a great length for those who want to dabble with short hair but don’t want to go all the way to a short bob. The long bob is getting a lot of attention this season and you’ll see many celebrities going for this shorter style.
It feels refreshing to have short hair, will take me seconds to wash it, and the styling is easy. The fun part was getting some highlights — a little bit of caramel highlights running through the top half of my hair. My stylist also gave me a bit of ombre highlights in the back.
There you have it. A shorter, brighter look for the new season!
These days we all use apps — some of us on a daily basis, from measuring how much calories we’ve burned to scheduling a babysitter for date night. Recently I came across an app providing on-demand professional hair and make-up services right at your home/location called Vensette. It is founded by Lauren Remington Platt (pictured above), a New York hedge fund analyst turned entrepreneur. Prices are around $200 for both hair and makeup (services can be done separately as well). Lauren vets all hair and makeup artists herself to ensure quality. While on the higher end, I personally think this is a great idea, especially for us working women who run from work meetings to galas, business events, fundraisers, and need to look our best with little time. This could also be a fun way to get hair and makeup done with your bridesmaids for your wedding, engagement party, any party for that matter! Check out their website as well and let me know what you think. If you come across any other useful fashion or beauty related apps, comment on the space below. Happy Thursday!
Even though it’s spring, it’s a great idea to layer for those warm days and cool nights.
A little inspiration for your Wednesday! A make-up refresh for spring.
