As you saw from this post, I recently cut my hair short and also brightened my locks with some color. Maintaining highlights can be an expensive ‘hobby’ (touch-ups recommended around every 3 months), so I was on the lookout for high quality color-safe shampoos and conditioners. My hair salon recommended Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger shampoo. I’ve only used it once or twice now and so far, so good. This moisturizing shampoo is great for color-treated hair (doesn’t tangle hair) and the smell is heavenly. A little goes a long way — use a few pea-sized amounts and add water to lather into your hair. After showering, I use a leave-in conditioner to lock in moisture and my hair is good to go for a couple of days.
I like switching shampoos every few days so that my fine hair does not get used to one shampoo/conditioner. I did some research and bought the Nexxus Color Assure set from Target. The verdict? Love! Good lather and very moisturizing. I also follow-up with the Color Assure leave-in conditioner spray.
There you have it…two hair care products currently in rotation. Let me know in the comments below if you have any good color-safe hair products that you recommend!

From my previous posts, you’ll see I’ve had long hair for the last 6 months. Knowing that I would be dealing with a newborn and have zero time to style my hair each day (so true), I grew my hair long so that I could easily pull it up into a ponytail. It was a good idea for a while. I soon discovered it took extra time to wash and dry my hair (for those days that I did wash it). Also, once the baby became aware of his hands and fingers, he started to grab and tug at my long strands. Since summer is upon us, I decided it was time for a hair cut and style change.
et voila, we have the long the bob! It’s a great length for those who want to dabble with short hair but don’t want to go all the way to a short bob. The long bob is getting a lot of attention this season and you’ll see many celebrities going for this shorter style.
It feels refreshing to have short hair, will take me seconds to wash it, and the styling is easy. The fun part was getting some highlights — a little bit of caramel highlights running through the top half of my hair. My stylist also gave me a bit of ombre highlights in the back.
There you have it. A shorter, brighter look for the new season!
These days we all use apps — some of us on a daily basis, from measuring how much calories we’ve burned to scheduling a babysitter for date night. Recently I came across an app providing on-demand professional hair and make-up services right at your home/location called Vensette. It is founded by Lauren Remington Platt (pictured above), a New York hedge fund analyst turned entrepreneur. Prices are around $200 for both hair and makeup (services can be done separately as well). Lauren vets all hair and makeup artists herself to ensure quality. While on the higher end, I personally think this is a great idea, especially for us working women who run from work meetings to galas, business events, fundraisers, and need to look our best with little time. This could also be a fun way to get hair and makeup done with your bridesmaids for your wedding, engagement party, any party for that matter! Check out their website as well and let me know what you think. If you come across any other useful fashion or beauty related apps, comment on the space below. Happy Thursday!
I recently went on a business trip to Denver, CO and stayed at the Marriott at Gateway Park. It was about -10 degrees at the time and after a long day with my colleagues, I longed for a hot shower. I don’t normally think much about hotel bath products, but once I started lathering the shampoo in my hair, I was in love with the smell of the shampoo. The shower gel and body lotion were equally amazing. After a little research, I found that I was using the THANN’s Aromatic Wood Collection. The THANN line (established in Thailand) offers a range of natural skincare and haircare products that use botanical ingredients, such as wheat protein and plant oils, moisturizers, and other natural ingredients. They’ve partnered with Marriott and now supply Marriott’s bath/body products. They even have two spas in Tarrytown, New York — might just have to go for a visit! I highly recommend trying out THANN’s products. I’ve bought several bottles from their Aromatic Wood Collection and can’t wait to use them at home. Best part is, you can buy their products online on their website here.
My second obsession of late is my new Kindle Paperwhite! This little nugget is my new favorite gadget and of late, the last thing I’m reading before going to bed. The built-in light option prevents glare so that I can read for hours on end and the print reads like a real book. I actually don’t miss reading a paperback and love how this version is super light and fits in all my bags.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend! Now that we’re halfway through the first month of the new year (anyone still putting away the last bits of holiday decor?), I thought I would perk up my lip color arsenal and refresh my stash with some new additions. Since I have a several after-work events to attend this week, I can’t wait to sport these new colors and share with you!
In the spirit of trying new things, I picked up a range of colors this weekend:
Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Pastel
Bite Beauty Pencil in Cranberry
MAC Lipstick in Up the Amp
MAC Lip Pencil in Magenta
NARS Lipstick in Funny Face
Have a great week!
